In an effort to encourage use of existing vacant commercial properties, boost the local economy, and create additional tax revenue for the City, the City Council reviewed a temporary amendment to the Impact Fee Ordinance and to the Water and Sewer Ordinance on October 16th. This amendment provides a 50% exemption in impact fees and water/sewer proportionate share fees for one year, specifically for the redevelopment and reuse of existing retail spaces. The City hopes that this exemption will reult in new businesses locating in the City. The exemption applies to non-residential spaces where the building permit for the original construction of the building was issued prior to the date of adoption of this temporary ordinance. Final vote on the ordinance is scheduled for November 6th.
