The Cobb Board of Commissioners voted 3-2 to increase the millage rate on July 26th. Cobb Chairman Tim Lee, Commissioner Helen Goreham and Commissioner Woody Thompson voted in favor of raising the Cobb millage rate from 9.60 mills to 11.11 mills. Commissioner Jo Ann Birrell and Commissioner Bob Ott voted in opposition of the millage increase and recommended cuts to the county budget instead. The millage rate is broken down into 7.72 mills for the general fund, 3.06 for the fire fund and .33 for debt service. The millage increase will help the county avoid a $33 million budget shortfall for 2012. Cobb County still has the lowest millage rate in the metro region. The increased rate will be applied to property tax bills that go out on August 15th.
