After a recent audit by KPMG was released, MARTA Board Chairman Fred Daniels made it clear that he was going to take the report and its recommendations seriously as the Board moves forward with the hiring of Keith Parker. The overhaul will require negotiations with the Transit Union, which will likely push back against efforts to privatize certain function.
The Union, representing 64% of MARTA workers will oppose the privatization efforts that many say are much needed. At the recent Council for Quality Growth DeKalb Advisory Meeting, Representative Mike Jacobs (R-DeKalb) made it clear that it was time to overhaul MARTA in order to improve the transit system, which has seen an expansion only five times since its creation.
