Priorities 

The Council for Quality Growth consistently supports a pro-growth, pro-business and pro-consumer agenda that limits unnecessary regulation, burdensome laws and advocates before policymakers at the state level the core mission of the Council: Ensuring continued quality growth and economic success for the Metro Region and state.

The Council for Quality Growth maintains an active presence at the State Capitol during the Georgia General Assembly Legislative Session, advocating for issues in the following areas: Economic Development; Water and Land Use and Environmental Regulation and Transportation.

A main function of the Council is to remain “focused on long-range community planning, encouraging adequate government services, catalyzing consensus on growth issues and advocating for a sensible and efficient regulatory environment” which drives our focus and legislative tracking and agenda at the State Capitol, along with our primary focus on the Metro Region’s eighty local governments.

Economic Development and Job Creation

– Oppose any legislation that limits the current structure and functions of Community Improvement Districts and Downtown Development Authorities;

– Advocate for legislation that creates enhanced tax incentives to encourage small business growth;

– Oppose legislation that increases regulation or adds new restrictions on the development, banking and business community;

– Oppose any legislation that infringes on Georgia citizens property rights.

Transportation

– Support recommendations by the Joint Study Committee on Critical Transportation Infrastructure Funding;

– Support funding mechanisms that fully fund multi-year transportation and infrastructure needs;

– Oppose any legislation that seeks to repeal the penalty portion of the “Transportation Investment Act.”

Water and Land Use and Environmental Regulation

– Support legislation that allows greater flexibility in use of land encumbered by streams and water bodies and encourage efficiency in the permitting process;

– Support legislation that encourages greater flexibility and economic incentives for Brownfield development;

– Oppose legislation that restricts the industry’s ability to develop in a quality and cost-effective manner.

– Continued advocacy for interbasin water transfers;

– Promote full-funding for Governor’s Water Supply Program.
