The first discharge permit ever to be issued to Forsyth County is being challenged by The Upper Chattahoochee River Keeper. The permit was issued August 18th by the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD). It grants the county the ability to release 6 million gallons per day of treated water from its Fowler wastewater facility into the Chattahoochee River. The Upper Chattahoochee River Keeper is challenging several parts of the permit including the maximum level of contaminants allowed. The EPD has not had time to review the petition and offer comment. A hearing will be scheduled sometime within the next 90 days to assess the situation.
